MArtha lamont

 MARTHA LAMONT is an alumnus of the Wimbledon School of Arts where she obtained her BA in Technical Arts and Special Effects and currently attends City and Guilds where she is in the process of obtaining her MA in Fine Art. Her introspective practice is grounded in autobiography, materially spanning large figurative paintings to small intimate canvases, alongside ink and watercolour studies. Lamont’s worlds are imagined and metaphorical, creating idiosyncratic compositions, symbolising the strange, contradictory nature of the mind. Depicting environments of loose and ambiguous nature, growth itself is a motif, represented through microbiology and botanic imagery alongside painterly effects that corrode the surfaces of the macroscopic spaces. Lamont’s works explore the inseparable relationship between light and dark within our lives, through the luminosity of paint. She emphasises that experiencing darkness is crucial in our perception and appreciation of light, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys through these contrasting human states.
