HAnnah Bays
HANNAH BAYS (b. 1982) is a rising, London based surrealist. Bays graduated from the Royal Academy Schools (UK) in 2015. She is a fresh voice to emerge from a strong lineage of female surrealists whose trail was blazed by 20th Century titans such as Leonora Carrington (1917-2011), Dorothea Tanning (1910-2012) & Leonor Fini (1907-1996). Rendered across painting and works on paper, in Bay's darkly humorous works things are never quite as they seem. Anthropomorphizing nonhuman objects and animals, Bay’s characters harness a sense of the uncanny to explore existential human truths. Jarring or jolting us out of our comfort zone, they ask us to look again.
