CHRIS OWEN
CHRIS OWEN (b. 1993) lives and works in London. Owen is currently studying for their MFA at Goldsmiths College, having previously obtained a BA in Fine Art from Newcastle University (2016). Devising both live performances and performative gestures, Owen creates characters which are then reflected in their drawing practice. They have a particular interest in auto-fiction and the theatrical, thinking of the stage as a space for appearance, disappearance, and transformations of the self. Morphing from the operatic to the naturalistic, the mundane to the more ethereal, Owen’s dips in and out of fantasy, their reality melting between dreams. This collection of self-portraits, rendered in felt tip pen and graphite, are akin to diary entries - characters open into different worlds, revealing the multiplicity of the self, transporting the viewer with them.
