Alison poon

ALISON POON (b.1996) has a BA Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art, an MA Anthropology and Cultural Politics from Goldsmiths, and MA Fine Art from City & Guilds, London. Poon’s practice spans ceramics, painting and sculpture, with her material choices acting as a direct link to her mixed-heritage background. With a Chinese family in Malaysia, Alison’s practice explores aspects of identity, family, domesticity, and the nuances of cultural interactions. Through her narrative focused work, Poon seeks to create a space of belonging. Drawing on the imaginative quirks of memory construction to critique and explore the romanticisation of the past and The Other, Alison creates scenes that are part observed and part fiction, collaging together her lived experience with that of cultural legacy and tradition.
